Details

Dimitris deals with all types of contentious shipping and international trade matters in the context of both arbitration and court proceedings under English law, including cross-border and trade finance disputes.

He has been involved in numerous charterparty, cargo/bill of lading, shipbuilding, marine insurance, sale and purchase and international trade disputes involving contractual breaches and claims in tort, as well as casualties involving general average, unseaworthiness, abandonment and transshipment considerations. His experience also extends to advising on drafting issues and settlement negotiations and organising early intervention mediations. Dimitris also often advises on international trade sanctions. Further, Dimitris has developed a keen interest in the global efforts towards decarbonisation and is often asked to assist with drafting contractual clauses, including those dealing with a vessel’s CII (Carbon Intensity Indicator) and the EU ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme).

Dimitris is regularly mentioned in the legal directories - Chambers and Partners describes him as “very bright and attentive to details, even minor ones”, “very hard working” and possessing “diligence, ability to focus on the critical issues and commercial acumen”, while also noting him as being “valued by clients for providing ‘clear instructions and strategy’ in high-pressure situations” and for offering “strong client service and support”. The Legal 500 mentions that he is “highly recommended” for his “quick understanding of issues coupled with fast responses” and for his “thorough legal analysis” and advice which is “always to the point and legally impeccable”.

Dimitris is a long-standing Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and a Supporting Member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA) and accepts appointments as an arbitrator in relation to matters within his expertise.

Dimitris joined Hill Dickinson in 2023 after 14 years (the last 6 of which as a partner) at two leading international law firms. He has a diverse legal education background of both English and Greek law and holds degrees from the University of East Anglia (Norwich Law School) (LL.B, Law), University College London (LL.M, Maritime Law) and the University of Athens (LL.B, Greek Law).
